Sarah being a bit of a science geek, one of our calendars (a glow in the dark one, no less!) displays a different picture of the moon each month, and against each date a little icon and a label to let you know the phase of the moon for that date. Having just changed the calendar over to May (yeah, yeah, a day late...absentmindedness, thy name is David), I note that yesterday was Waxing Gibbous.

Is it just me, or does that sound like it should be the name of a character in a Terry Pratchett book? Seriously, it has such a marvellous ring to it...

I have a plan.

It's not a cunning plan. It's not even necessarily a particularly good plan (although I think it's got a lot to recommend it...we'll see what other people involved think...), but I like it.

*maintains mysterious silence as to the exact nature of the not-cunning-plan*

ETA: Ah well, at least one of the people involved thinks that the idea (which, for the record, involved Sarah and I taking our niece and nephew to Legoland Windsor) is not such a good one, as Jakob and Eleni are both pretty young and a bit of a handful. When they're a bit older, my mum thinks. Fair 'nuff. I'll just have to persuade Sarah that she'd like to take me. I may be 42, but I suspect I'd be a bit of a handful and definitely like a child again at Legoland.

ETA 2: Apparently my parents bought Jakob a Lego Millennium Falcon for his birthday. I think I've just gone bright green with jealousy..!

...but a bit of Google Fu gave me what *might* be a workable answer...

I was just sitting down to lunch - lunch, at the moment, being a bit of bread, a bit of cheese, some cherry tomatoes, and (because I rather love it) a wodge of salad cream. And, as y'do, I decided to have a read of the back of the bottle of salad cream, and - given what I posted about on Monday - I was rather disturbed by the high sugar content. This is a bottle of Heinz. 17.5g of sugars per 100g of salad cream. That's a lot of sugar. And I do like my salad cream, and was going to ask if anybody knew of any low/non-sugar equivalent. Not mayonnaise (which I don't like, 'cos I find it a bit bland), but your actual salad cream.

Couldn't find any, but I did find this recipe, which calls itself "Cornish salad cream," but seems to be about the same as Heinz. It's got sugar in the recipe, but I'm thinking I could get some of the low-GI sugar I had a couple of years back, and substitute that for normal sugar in the recipe.

I think that might work. Of course, it'd be even more useful if it can be kept in the fridge for a week or two. I suspect I'll have a crack at making some this weekend...
