Film meme. First 20 questions taken from
gal8028, last 10 questions taken from here. Yes, I know it's meant to be done in thirty days. Couldn't be bothered.
Day 01 – The best movie you saw during the last year
Erm. Well, best movie that I saw during the last year doesn't necessarily mean it has to have been released during the last year, I guess...I think I'll go for Music and Lyrics, which I watched again a few weeks back, and which combines so many of my great loves - Hugh Grant romcoms, Drew Barrymore, song writing, music, '80s tack music...
Day 02 – The most underrated movie
I probably don't like any films that really count as underrated...I guess Donnie Darko has never really made it beyond "cult underground hit," which is a shame. Same with Withnail and I.
Day 03 – A movie that makes you really happy
Notting Hill. Hugh Grant romcoms will probably feature a lot in this list. Notting Hill is just pure wish fulfilment. Always leaves me with a smile on my face.
Day 04 – A movie that makes you sad
Not regularly, but the last time I watched Love, Actually I cried like a baby. It does have a lot of tearjerker moments.
Day 05 – Favorite love story in a movie
It would probably be between Notting Hill and one of the many (or indeed most of them) in Love, Actually.
Day 06 – Favorite made for TV movie
I'm not sure that any of the movies I know were made for TV. Well, except the 1996 Doctor Who TVM, and I can hardly put that as favourite anything...
Day 07 – The most surprising plot twist or ending
Erm. Don't know. I saw Sixth Sense after someone had already told me the plot twist. There are probably others that I've seen that had a twist, but I can't remember them, or their surprising qualities have been diminished due to the passage of time (is there anybody who doesn't know that Darth Vader is ****** ******?). Although, ETA, the place I got the last ten questions from put Fight Club, and yes, damn' right! That's a totally pull-the-rug-out-from-underneath-you twist. I'd like to write one as good as that one day...
Day 08 – A movie that you’ve seen countless times
Titanic. Easily.
Day 09 – A movie with the best soundtrack
I love the scores to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Back to the Future trilogy (to the extent that Sarah and I used part of the former for our wedding, and when part I of the latter was released in limited edition in the USA I ordered it as soon as my paycheque came through). Mamma Mia wins for having wall-to-wall ABBA, although I can understand that people who don't passionately adore their music might find the film a little unpalatable...
Day 10 – Favorite classic movie
Probably It's a wonderful life.
Day 11 – A movie that changed your opinion about something
I can't think of one. Well, I suppose Kick Ass, because I normally don't deal with movies with a lot of gore, but I coped okay with that.
Day 12 – A movie that you hate
I don't really hate any movies - if I think I won't like something, I don't watch it.
Day 13 – A movie that is a guilty pleasure
Ditto, kind of. If I like something, I see no reason to feel guilty about it. Other people like to make me feel guilty about the fact that I like Titanic and Hugh Grant romcoms, but that's their loss...
Day 14 – A movie that no one would expect you to love
I suspect that some people would be surprised that I quite like The Sound of Music (and my dad would be disgusted about the fact that I quite like it...). See also Kick-Ass, for reasons stated in question 11.
Day 15 – A character who you can relate to the most
Marty McFly. I mean, I can't play the guitar or skateboard as well as him, but that aside I suspect that I'd react a bit like that to travelling back in time to 1955.
Day 16 – A movie that you used to love but now hate
I don't think any movie I've seen has quite so polarised me, but I guess my love for Four Weddings and a Funeral has kind of waned a bit.
Day 17 – A movie that disappointed you the most
Inception. It wasn't bad, but I don't think it was really as deep or intellectual as people made it out to be.
Day 18 – A movie that you wish more people would’ve seen
Donnie Darko again.
Day 19 – Favorite movie based on a book/comic/etc.
Probably Lord of the Rings.
Day 20 – Favorite movie from your favorite actor.
I don't really have a favourite actor per se. Although I guess I quite like James McAvoy, and Starter for Ten is a good film.
Day 21 - Favourite movie from your favourite actress
My favourite actresses (Charlotte Coleman and Jane Horrocks) weren't/aren't particularly movie people, but for Charlotte I still remain somewhat fond of Four Weddings..., and for Jane, Little Voice is lovely.
Day 22 - Favourite Action movie
Probably a Bond film. Let me think. Yeah, I think I'll go for Licence to Kill.
Day 23 - Favourite Documentary
Not really a big documentary fan, but Michael Moore's Sicko, just for having Tony Benn in the list of interviewees.
Day 24 - Favourite Animation
The Incredibles, which was our first date movie.
Day 25 - The most hilarious film you have seen
I tend not to go for out-and-out hilarity - even the romcoms I like tend to be more "gently amusing" than laugh-out-loud. I suspect that the most genuinely hilarious film I've seen would probably be one of the Carry Ons - Cowboy, Cleo, or Screaming are all particularly good. IMO. Also, of course, The Full Monty is terrifically funny in places. It should also be a contender in the best soundtrack question too.
Day 26 - A movie you love but everyone else hates
We're back to Titanic and Hugh Grant romcoms, aren't we? Although just to be different, I'll say Return of the Jedi, which I like because of the Ewoks. What's not to love about cute little teddy bears overthrowing the evil tyrannical Empire???
Day 27 - A movie that you wish you had seen in cinemas
Well, the place I took the last ten questions in this meme from answered this question with 2001: A Space Odyssey, and I think they've got a point.
Day 28 - Favourite movie from your favourite director
Must honestly admit to not having a favourite director as such, so this is rather a difficult one to answer.
Day 29 - Favourite film from my childhood
Probably the original animated version of 101 Dalmations. Either that or Pete's Dragon. Both of which I'd really like to see again. Must get the DVDs.
Day 30 - Your favourite movie of all time
We're in a seven-way tie, here, and I really don't want to have to choose - it's between the original Star Wars trilogy, the Back to the Future trilogy, and Titanic. Don't make me choose. Just don't.

Disorganised as ever.
Aug. 31st, 2011 04:31 pmI've just remembered that I've still not watched episode 8 of Torchwood.
At this rate, I could just wait for the BBC to show it. And also get free bonus trailer for episode 9. Or I could just give it a watch tonight anyway... Hmm, Torchwood and roast chicken...sounds like a winning combination...
ETA: One day I will get a Torchwood icon that doesn't feature Ianto. I'm not in denial, honestly!

Disocvered the other day that one of those 5-disc CD sets that I pick up at motorway service stations for a tenner contains Starship's Nothing's gonna stop us now, which is something of a favourite song of mine, so I thought, I'll give it a listen.
It misses the first half dozen drum beats!!!
What utter travesty is this?
Mind you, there are some radio DJs who fade it before the guitar solo. Which is the best bit.
