Just watched a repeat of the Top Gear Polar challenge on BBC3 and...OMG. Absolutely hysterical, and also thrilling and thought-provoking. Not, I'll freely admit, one of my main fandoms, but nevertheless a great way of spending an hour. And very slashy too...do they...realise???

Today's been another good day. Hopefully this is very much a case of starting 2009 as I mean to go on.

Sarah's still ill, but the Met line or Chiltern trains willing, I'll be popping up to Chorleywood to spend tomorrow with her. And then watching the Doctor Who Confidential special when I get home. And Demons.

Hopefully Sunday morning will be spent at Oasis for the first time in about 14 months...

When I was first introduced to the world of Harry Potter (watching the first three films in one day, which included going to see the third on its release at a local cinema), I was quite drawn to Harry/Hermione, if I'm honest. I guess just being a bit old-fashioned and thinking that it's right for the hero and heroine to pair off together. This despite soon learning that it was a doomed ship. I still clung to it...

These days, I'm more slash-oriented, and Sirius and Remus is my number one OTP ever in any fandom - I just think there's something wonderfully sweet about them together, and they're almost but not quite canonical, and I've got a little happy place where spoiler ) they're living together in a cottage in Gloucestershire, where they're often visited by their adopted son Harry, on leave from teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts. (I've got to write that one day.)

Also, Ianto Jones with...well, anyone other than Jack (who I'm convinced is going to break his heart), from any fandom I'm particularly fond of pairing him with George from Being Human and Sam from Supernatural, and one day I'm going to write my Big Slashy Epic Crossover which combines all three series and pairings into one...mess, probably.

And I really love Merlin/Arthur, but heck, that's canonical, so I don't have to want to see it. *g*

Last night

Had a very pleasant evening - left work a bit early, popped into London, met Sarah (very briefly) and [livejournal.com profile] avonette, to whom I gave a slashzine which is useful research for her PhD and also contains much B7-related slashy goodness. We had a bite to eat at Pizza Hut on Piccadilly Circus before retiring to her place for drinks and more slash chat and watching B7 vids on Youtube. 'Twas a bit of a mini-slashbash, and great fun.

[livejournal.com profile] avonette mentioned the Festival of Venice, which a.) put me in mind of Rondo Veneziano (and I managed to dig up the vid for La Serenissima on Youtube, which was rather joyous as I've not seen it since...ooh, about 1983); and b.) reminded me of the fact that Venice is one of Those Places that I'd love to take Sarah to (that's "take her to" as opposed to just "go to with her") - others include Prague for Christmas markets and a Welsh Six Nations match at the Millennium Stadium.

One day.

Speaking of Sarah, her back problems have flared up rather nastily - prayers and general good vibes would be highly appreciated.

I got home from [livejournal.com profile] avonette's rather late last night, and am now knackered. Despite that, the plan for tonight is: driving lesson after work, then to mum's for fish and chips, and then out to a quiz at the local grammar school. Looking forward to that. Less looking forward to not seeing the last episode of Torchwood as it goes out. I mean, yes, Tim and I'll be taping it, and probably watching it as soon as we get home, but it's not the same.

And I gather there's something to look forward to on the tellybox tomorrow evening. Can't think what... *g*

Oh, and BritSlash.

Flippin' 'eck, there's even some Drop the Dead Donkey (Henry/Dave) up in the archive. Lovely little site. Might even join the mailing list.

Whether you celebrate Easter as a Christian festival, a Pagan festival, a chance to eat lots of chocolate eggs, something else, or a combination of the above, Happy Easter!

EasterCon continues to be enjoyable - this morning I went to the Easter morning service, followed by the Bad Blake's 7 Slash panel (huge fun and much laughter all round) and a discussion that started off as "Is Sam Tyler really the Master" but ended up being a pretty general discussion on Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Torchwood, and some random Primeval (which I must watch 'cos I get the impression I'd really enjoy it).

Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes thought - Possibly a bit spoilery )

Debating whether to buy a Beeblebear.

Next weekend Sarah and I will be visiting her family (and of course our new nephew). Weekend after that the new Doctor Who starts - much yayness. Sadly the househunting has stalled a bit, as we still need to someone to put down an offer on Sarah's house before we can put down an offer on anywhere in Letchworth.

Is it me or has Google's front page changed?

Oh well - off for K-9 agility. Should be fun!
