Fandom meme...
Jan. 7th, 2009 11:51 am...gacked from
lonemagpie. And assuming that "this year" refers to 2008...
Your main fandom of the year?
Doctor Who is always my main fandom, other things just come and go.
Your favourite film watched this year?
Not sure. I don't think I've watched many. Mamma Mia, I think.
Your favourite book read this year?
Haven't read many. Probably Death is Forever (one of John Gardner's James Bond novels).
Your favourite album or song to listen to this year?
I've been listening a lot to Bilingual by the Pet Shop Boys (vastly underrated, IMO), as well as Gold Afternoon Fix, Priest=Aura, and Sometime Anywhere all by the Church.
Your favourite TV show of the year?
Doctor Who, Chuck, Heroes, Supernatural, Merlin, The Sarah Jane Adventures.
Your favourite LJ community of the year?
I don't really have a favourite - they're just useful places to spend time with people with whom I share interests.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Chuck, with the Buffyverse close behind. Also, Merlin has been good fun.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
I can't really think of one.
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Milo Ventimiglia.
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Freema Agyeman.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
The clip of all the past Doctors in The Next Doctor. Who said Paul McGann doesn't count??!
The most missed of your old fandoms?
Press Gang.
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
It's not a TV fandom, but I keep meaning to get round to reading some Jasper Fforde books.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
More Doctor Who.

Oh yes, he is.
Jan. 6th, 2009 07:04 pmSo, it appears that the casting of Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor has been rather, um, controversial. Not sure why. For me it's more a case of, "oh, who's he?", seeing as I'm totally unfamiliar with his work (something I plan to put right by getting hold of a copy of Party Animals asap, and possibly The Ruby in the Smoke). The only real negative that I can see is he's not Chiwetel Ejeiofor (for whom I'd rather built up my hopes), but then that would have been true of most of the other actors who were mooted in the press, with one obvious exception. And hey, he may be not very well known, and fairly young and not terribly experienced, but he is an actor. ISTR back in 2003 when RTD was getting the new series off the ground, that some papers were suggesting that maybe Paul Daniels could be the Doctor. *ahem*
Oh, and Demons. Another case of building my hopes up. I don't know if it might have been better if Glenister hadn't played it with that bizarre pseudo-American accent, but quite frankly, that's an hour of my life I'll never get back...

His Brigness.
Dec. 1st, 2008 07:10 pmSo, I just watched the CBBC episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures. I hope nobody considers it too spoilery for me to mention that the Brigadier - now Brigadier Sir Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart - is in it (look, it's in the Radio Times and the front cover of the latest Doctor Who Magazine, so it's not exactly a closely guarded secret).
And I was thinking - it's basically because of Nicholas Courtney that Sarah and I met. It was at a signing at the (now sadly defunct) Tenth Planet shop in Barking, for the Lost in Time DVD set, and Nicholas was one of the people there; Sarah was mainly there for him, and had brought along her Battlefield VHS cover for him to sign. We sat next to each other in the queue, got chatting...and the rest, as they say, is history.
I wonder if it would be good form to invite Mr Courtney along to our wedding?
Whether we do or not, I think His Brigness will be there in spirit.

TV news...
Mar. 26th, 2008 08:00 pmAshes to Ashes renewed for second series.
New series of Doctor Who starts on Saturday 5th April at 6:20pm.
Sarah insists that for the latter she'll be on a sofa somewhere.
On a sofa? Has the girl got no sense of tradition??!
<makes note to move sofas away from wall>

EasterCon and Life on Mars/A2A musings
Mar. 23rd, 2008 12:29 pmWhether you celebrate Easter as a Christian festival, a Pagan festival, a chance to eat lots of chocolate eggs, something else, or a combination of the above, Happy Easter!
EasterCon continues to be enjoyable - this morning I went to the Easter morning service, followed by the Bad Blake's 7 Slash panel (huge fun and much laughter all round) and a discussion that started off as "Is Sam Tyler really the Master" but ended up being a pretty general discussion on Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Torchwood, and some random Primeval (which I must watch 'cos I get the impression I'd really enjoy it).
Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes thought - ( Possibly a bit spoilery )
Debating whether to buy a Beeblebear.
Next weekend Sarah and I will be visiting her family (and of course our new nephew). Weekend after that the new Doctor Who starts - much yayness. Sadly the househunting has stalled a bit, as we still need to someone to put down an offer on Sarah's house before we can put down an offer on anywhere in Letchworth.
Is it me or has Google's front page changed?
Oh well - off for K-9 agility. Should be fun!
