Does anyone out there in Flistland have any experience of using light boxes for seasonal affective disorder? I'm thinking of getting one, but I'd like to know what other people's experiences of them are like.

Cheers.

They're good but tres expensive. It's been proven that you can get precisely the same effect from normal bulb (not LED) multicoloured Christmas lights - the colours give out similar properties, raising moods.

Go to B&Q therefore... *grin*

I have no personal experience, but have had patients (I'm a complementary therapist) and friends who reported seeing benefits from using them regularly during the winter months. I can only advise shop around and research until you are satisfied that you have the best option for your budget and needs (portability, length of use each day etc). Good luck!

Yep, I've been using one since summer 2006 and it's great. I think it really, really helps and I wish I'd got one 25 years ago when I first heard of them and realised I needed one

Light Boxes

I have been using light therapy every morning for the last 13 years.
For the first 9 years I used a large fluorescent light box which put out light across the full spectrum but did not peak at the most efficient wavelength to produce the desired effect for SAD.
Then 4 years ago I discovered a portable LED light therapy device that produced the desired effect with the most efficient wavelength, this in less than ½ the time of the older light box. This device is called the Litebook 'elite'. www.litebook.com .

To my knowledge, it is the only light therapy device for SAD that is backed by published medical research.

It is available at some medical supply stores, health food stores and also on line at www.target.com
