1. REPLY TO THIS POST, AND I WILL PICK THREE OF YOUR ICONS AND SEVEN OF YOUR INTERESTS.
2. MAKE A POST (INCLUDING THE MEME INFO) AND TALK ABOUT THE ICONS/INTERESTS I CHOSE.
3. OTHER PEOPLE CAN THEN COMMENT TO YOU AND MAKE THEIR OWN POSTS.
4. THIS WILL CREATE A NEVER-ENDING CYCLE OF SQUEE. WHOO!

Gacked from [livejournal.com profile] cynthia_black, who provided these interests/userpic picks for me to talk about.

Userpics:
Charlotte

I've been a fan of Charlotte Coleman's since...well, not quite always, but certainly around the time she was in Worzel Gummidge, so we're talking late '70s. Exchanged a few letters (only a handful, but even so), met a few times, mainly when she was appearing in a play at the Bush Theatre... When she died, I was actually really rather distraught. This icon is just a kind of way of paying tribute to her. The text comes from Blade Runner, and just felt appropriate.

Sirius - Shutters and Blinds

[livejournal.com profile] its_art did a quite wonderful piece of post-DH Harry Potter crackfic, which contained the wonderful line (describing Sirius Black): "Tall, emaciated bloke. Escaped from Azkaban. Turned into a dog... Now he dead from curtains" (a reference to his manner of death in OoTP, obviously). Once I'd recovered from laughing, I suggested that this line deserved to be iconned, which [livejournal.com profile] its_art duly did, as well as the "always prefered shutters and blinds" one. I loved them enough to snag the set.

White Poppies

I've never really liked the red poppies that get sold by the Royal British Legion, not being able to really support the message they're promoting. I don't entirely agree with the Peace Pledge Union's white poppies either, but I agree with them a lot more (or at least I disagree with them a lot less), so I've started wearing them as an alternative. The icon is, IIRC, a graphic taken from the PPU's site and amended a little bit.

Mitch Ikea

This is a line from Mitch Benn's song Ikea, a paean of praise to the furniture sellers of the same name. I just thought it was rather snappy and amusing and deserved to be turned into an icon, if only so that I've got something to use whenever I'm writing about Mitch.

Jesus called

Being charitable, there are - it seems - quite a few Christians in the world who seem to think that Christianity is synonymous with right wing politics, homophobia, and waging war at the slightest provocation. It's nice to be reminded that that isn't really the case, and I found this icon to be a pleasantly gentle way of so doing.

Sam Brown

Again, been a fan of Sam's for some time (since Stop! was first released back in early '88), and I think she has a really lovely voice and I never tire of listening to her singing. So I just wanted an icon for when I'm writing about her on LJ. The icon is taken from a signed postcard of her (the artwork is from her April Moon album).

Interests:
Bagpuss
What can I say? Bagpuss has recently been voted the favourite children's TV animal of all time. I don't know for definite, but I suspect I'd've watched all thirteen episodes when they were first shown (my favourite remains the one with the chocolate biscuit mill), and I definitely love them at least as much now as I ever did before. I recently bought my not-quite-two-year-old nephew the full series on DVD, and he apparently loves them. Baton passed down to the next generation. Yay!

Autographs
I enjoy collecting autographs. I don't think I'd ever buy one, but if I'm going to see a play or a concert, it's quite nice to pop round to the stage door, express my admiration to the singers/actors, and walk away with their signature on a programme or a ticket or something. Also, I've sometimes written to people I like and got signed photographs back from them. It's not something I do much nowadays, but it's something I rather miss, so I don't think I'll be away from it for long.

The Box of Delights.
The 1935 novel by poet laureate John Masefield, adapted into a 1984 TV serial featuring the bestest Doctor Who, Patrick Troughton. Not flawless, by any means (indeed, in this era of remakes, I'm kind of surprised that nobody's decided to give it the 21st century CGI treatment), but both book and TV serial have a wonderful nostalgic charm to them. And I always try to watch the TV serial in the run-up to Christmas.

Ribena
My favourite drink. Ideally the bottled variety, not very much diluted so it packs a heck of a punch. On warm summer days, dilute (but not very much) with lemonade instead of water to make a really sickly, but rather wonderful, concoction...

I think that sums it all up.

David.
