Writer's Block: The best of times

I was listening to Bon Jovi's 7800o Fahrenheit, and that reminded me of a time when I listened to that and the Eurythmics' Revenge pretty constantly. Weird thing was, the context in which I remember listening to them was playing truant from sixth form college - there were certain lessons I tried to avoid, and I just snuck into the local library and read and listen to music. Normally, my memory would have me believe, Enid Blyton's Adventure series. But yes, that was, for some reason, a particularly happy time of my life. Thinking about it, I'm not sure to what extent I'd have actually listened to music in the library - I mean, it tended to be pretty deserted, and I'd have used my Walkman (yes, an actual Sony Walkman), but the only copy of Revenge I had was on vinyl. Erm.
Also, Now that's what I call music 7; I spent a very happy summer in 1986 sitting in the back room at my parents' house playing computer games (normally Repton 2 and Elite on the BBC Micro) and listening to Radio 1 and/or Now 7, so that as an album, and anything else that was in the charts during that period, is pretty much etched in my memory.
Three Pet Shop Boys tracks (I'll always keep coming back to them, won't I?) also have a strong nostalgic factor for me - Suburbia (particularly The Full Horror mix, aka the version on the Disco album; for a while that was a favourite album of mine, and my tape copy is virtually unlistenable as it's been played so much; Suburbia remained a favourite song of mine, to the extent that when the Boys were doing a booksigning in 1990 I asked them if it would be featuring in the tour that they'd announced for the following year; I was delighted to be told it would, and even more delighted when the question was mentioned in the write-up of the event in their fan club magazine Literally; fame at last!), Heart (which for some time was my favourite track on Actually, until it was actually released as single, by which time I'd got a bit tired of it..!), and Always on my Mind (it got to number one either on my 18th birthday, or at least on the day I was having an 18th birthday party with all my family present, and still packs a powerful punch, IMO).
Also, Rondo Veneziano's Venice in Peril album was a constant companion on many family holidays. IIRC we had no cassette player actually in the car, so if I wanted to listen to music I'd have to rely on a little battery-operated portable player.
Strangely, there is no music which really vividly reminds me of my wedding; in my defence, it all went by in a bit a blur, and the music we really wanted to have (the grand stomping theme from Lord of the Rings we didn't get to hear as my brother-in-law put the wrong disc in as we walked out of the church, and only changed it to play the proper music once we'd left and were posing by the car for photos..!).
So what I've learned from all of this is that I was at my happiest when I was about 16 - 18. Make of that what you will.

They used to play this between programmes on TVS in the mid 80s, and all I remembered was it was about Venice sinking. I tried to describe it to Stegzy but he didn't know. Now you have answered my question :D
