My latest experience of piratical shenanigans was at the Britannia hotel in Coventry. I think I'd have that as my base. And I'd sit there hoping for people to come along and get married so that my piratical minionsand I could interrupt proceedings with a swordfight at the slightest hint of a "...just cause or impediment?".
Although, because I'm never comfortable without a bit of genre-blending, I'd have a white cat in my lap, and would probably relocate the hotel to the base of a volcano.
