On the radio yesterday, there was a conversation about the imminent new Star Wars films, and also what folks thought of the originals.

One person had texted in to say, "I've never watched the Star Wars films, because I've got a life."

Oh, dear. Because, obviously, watching six of the most successful films in history is obviously indicative of not having a life...

Excuse me while I sulk over here in the corner...

Typical over-reaction.

I like Doctor Who - and I have a life.
I like Firefly - and I have a life.
I like Star Wars - and I have a life.
I like Star Trek - and I have a life.

Seems like I'm getting a whole lot MORE out of life than that person.

Reminds me of a time I was at a Doctor Who convention. A friend and I, who were staying away from the main convention hotel, left at about 3:00am on the Sunday to go to our hotels for...a few hours sleep. On the way, we passed loads of folks who were emerging, mostly drunk, from Liverpool's nightclubs. We shared the observation that if they knew what we'd been doing, they'd probably call *us* sad...

I think the mistake you're making is caring about what people who text radio shows think!

I like...

Discworld
Firefly
Big Bang Theory
Red Dwarf
Star Wars
Dr Who
Farscape
The Dresden Files (books not TV series)
Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London/Moon Over Soho/Whispers Underground books
And I used to like a bit of Star Trek too, and Harry Potter.

They are all part of the reason why I have a life, and Discworld in particularly led me to finding most of the friends I have today :-)

Same here. Well, some slightly different "likes", but apart from that. (I keep meaning to check out The Dresden Files and Farscape, amongst other things, and I've got Rivers of London nestling in my "to be read" pile...but it's a very big pile...)

Heck, without Doctor Who, I wouldn't have met my wife. :-)
